The Reverend Al Sharpton is helping to mend the fences between PepsiCo and the family of slain civil rights figure Emmett Till. Reverend Sharpton brought the two groups together in an effort to move forward after Lil Wayne's controversial rap lyrics, which compared Till's murder to sex.
PepsiCo eventually dropped Lil Wayne's endorsement deal with its Mountain Dew soda brand.
In a statement, Sharpton called Wednesday's meeting "positive." During the talks - which took place at Pepsi's corporate headquarters - PepsiCo also apologized to the family.
Sharpton says the company shared his belief that the controversy can be a "teachable moment." Sharpton also called on young hip-hop artists to be more conscientious of civil rights history.
