Ja Rule to finish sentence under house arrest

Listen to Ja Rule on iHeartRadio

Ja Rule will finish serving his 28-month prison sentence for tax evasion in the comfort of his own home.  The rapper's spokesperson tells TMZ.com he was released from federal prison Tuesday morning.

Ja was originally set to be released in July, but his attorney Stacy Richman convinced the court to allow the rapper to complete his sentence under house arrest.  Now, that he's out of prison, Ja Rule's rep says the rapper plans to spend time with his family while he pens his memoir.

Ja Rule spent nearly two years in prison on gun and tax evasion charges.  The gun charge stems from a 2007 incident when police found a pistol in his car.  He later pled guilty to criminal possession of a weapon.

Around the same time he began serving his sentence for the gun charge, he was sentenced to 28-months in prison for failing to pay taxes on nearly three million-dollars in earnings between 2004 to 2006.
