Remember how popular Lauryn Hill was in the mid-1990's? Remember when she then abruptly all but ended her career? Well, now it appears Hill disappeared from both her fans' and the IRS' radars. And here's why (in her words): She received scary threats to her and her family.
Hill stopped filing tax returns in 2005 despite the fact that she's earned well over $1.8 million since. She has plead guilty and faces several years in prison.
TMZ reports that sources close to Hill claim she stopped paying taxes ""when she withdrew from society at large due to what she perceived as manipulation and very real threats to herself and her family."
They didn't give any specifics about the perceived threats though. Hill originally claimed that she dropped off the map more than a decade to "get back in touch with her musical roots," but this could be a new explaination.
She'll plead for probation during her sentencing on April 22.
